PaymentSpring Announces In-App Check Scanning
PaymentSpring is offering check scanning as a new phone app feature, making it a snap for businesses and nonprofits of all sizes to accept paper checks.
As rare as paper payments seem, checks are still heavily used in certain industries. In the nonprofit world, many donors still give via check.
With this new PaymentSpring product, payments are added to the customer’s PaymentSpring Gateway alongside their online and mobile transactions with a few clicks and a quick photo of the check.
Not only does this allow customers to sidestep the hassle of handling cash, they spend less time managing deposits and they receive funds faster.
In the nonprofit world, many donors still give via paper checks, especially at events. This was a huge pain point for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a nonprofit that funds childhood cancer research primarily through its signature head-shaving events.
At these events, attendees often donate via check. While any donation to aid in the fight against childhood cancer is valuable, St. Baldrick’s was using precious time and resources delivering or mailing checks to the bank and waiting for the funds to clear.
Now, volunteers and staff simply scan the checks, streamlining the check acceptance process and creating efficiencies.
“We’ve heard great feedback. Volunteers being able to see donations appear online in real-time has been a tremendous benefit. Now they don’t have to mail checks to a lockbox and wait a week or more for access to funds. This significantly reduces our volunteers’ check handling time—and we have access to donation funds much more quickly,” said Nate Rusch, technology director at the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
And St. Baldrick’s is just one company saving time and energy with this new feature.
“We are pleased to offer such a rare product to our customers,” said Mike Phelan, PaymentSpring president. “PaymentSpring is here to solve payment acceptance issues through innovation. This new check scanning functionality solves an age-old frustration for any business still handling paper checks.”
This new feature is available now for both Android and iOS.
