Why Faith-Based Organizations Need Online Giving
If your church or organization hasn’t moved to online giving yet, the idea might seem overwhelming. Or maybe you have gone digital, but you’re not yet reaping the benefits. In either case, help is here.
But first, some stats:
Online giving as a whole has grown year after year, increasing 23% in 2017 after a 15% increase the year prior. Monthly online giving grew 40%, and mobile visits to nonprofit websites increased by 9%.
For those of you keeping score at home, that means mobile now accounts for 40% of all nonprofit web traffic! In 2017, a whopping 21% of all online donations were made on mobile.
45% of American households donate to faith-based organizations. And guess what? Churches that offer online tithing receive 32% more in overall donations, and while tithers only make up 10–25% of an average congregation, 60% of church-goers are willing to give digitally.
Whew. That’s a lot of numbers. So what does it all mean?
Online fundraising is effective. The numbers don’t lie—online giving works. Even if your organization is still using traditional methods of fundraising, like letters or direct mail appeals, providing your congregation the option to give digitally will result in more donations.
It’s convenient for donors to give online. Convenient for you and your congregation. Online giving removes some manual work on your church’s end, and the process is speedier for both parties. Recurring donations add even more value, and if the numbers tell us anything, it’s that donors appreciate the automation and ultimately give more as a result.
Mobile-friendly giving is critical. In 2018, mobile is already a huge part of all web traffic (nonprofit and otherwise), so ensuring your faith-based organization has a mobile-friendly website and giving page is more important now than ever. You can further engage your congregation with text-to-give and giving apps.
